Commons Accountability - Leaving Terra
« on: April 28, 2011, 12:45:21 am »
The congressmen who voted NO on the proposal to leave Terra:

Name and reasoning (if given).

Artela - "It's too early for this vote".

Blaggard - "I would sponsor if only our good allies weren't in Terra".

Michael Crookes - None stated but seemed to believe we wouldn't be able to MPP France and Brazil if we left (did have some logic to back it up).

Thatcher - Heavy menstruation

Thomas765 - Gave no reason. Seemed to be open-minded about it and even leaning towards a yes in the debate but obviously decided otherwise.

Vadigor - No reason given, and not a relevant person in the eUK anyway.

Koratos - As above

Talon Karrde - "I've voted no purely as I think the vote is premature. I'd like to see a fair amount more discussion and some in depth analysis of our options from the MoFA, MoD and Advisors etc, as in who will do what, who will think what, in addition to actual physical options."

Jhorlin - "If we are to leave TERRA, we must have a viable option open to us. Staying neutral would be incredibly risky, to the point of foolish, with Poland and so many friends on the warpath to the USA, and the UK offering the potential border for them to take by force if we abandon our alliance."

Also, Dan Moir proposed the vote and voted yes, so I suppose he should get some credit for following the will of the people.

Information can be accessed here:

The debate - http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=66197 (8 pages long but shines a lot of light on congressmen who thought this information wasn't going to be made public).

I can't believe I read the whole thing.

Did we really just bail out of an alliance only four months old, with everything that's going on right now in the eWorld, so we can go screw around with Ireland?

And the 'motion to leave' vote was held one day before congressional elections?

And Ireland has a Polish MPP now? Come on.

For correctness:

Quote from: "Jhorlin"
After sleeping on the matter, I have changed my vote to No.

In principle, I see nothing wrong with leaving TERRA, but I think that this entire vote has been poorly planned and moreover, has been jumped on congress without adequate discussion. It is clear that there is no exit strategy and I find this irresponsible.

all this proves is that the UK is as good at sticking to allies as I am at sticking to countries :

When the plot was uncovered,
The subjected discovered,
That sadly the cake was a lie.

nothing wrong with being wiped off the map, it's what can happen to small countried when they piss about with the big guns (also happens to them when they don't). it's part of the game and it's fun, gets people stimulated.

The reason I voted to leave is because we where in an alliance with the eUSa and eCanada, the two countries who would like to kill us. I know if you can beat them, join them, but this is a freaking game where we are supposed to have a litle fun.

I was a player in the time we have gotten no war for 6 months..That was boring...but safe. I was a player when poland and the USA where killing us, that was fun and not safe. But hey we are still alive

That reason I can understand, Terra was pretty much using us as a shield for the USA and not much more

[Proposal] Publicise Vote and Discussion Threads
by Smack » Mon Apr 25, 2011 6:47:32 pm

My no vote was because the reasons to voting yes at the time were stupid.  There are plenty of reasons to have not joined, and hindsight showed us that joining hadn't caused the fruition of any of the promises.  However I stand by the No vote.
