Probably the best Historical narrative I've read is a book called "Rubicon" by Tom Holland. It's really captivating and gets you really interested in the late Roman republic.

How much of it is truth I don't know, it makes you feel like both the senate and the people realised and were upset that Octavian was going to take their 'freedom'. To me all this stuff about the people being free under the republic sounds like Cicero's propaganda. Octavian tried to make it seem like the people were as free as ever, and when Cicero was removed from the equation that was easy. This is where we get the idea that Antony wanted to be a world dictator, Octavian and Cicero would make it seem like this, thus Octavian won the support of Cicero and the republicans.

The life of Julius Caesar is so overdone in fiction.

Sir Mic thinks it's impressive he's read 70% of a book in a year. That's like two pages a day.

I'm reading storm of arrows by Christian Cameron atm.

Currently reading 'Subverting Politics: European Autonomous Social Movements and the Decolonisation of Everyday Life' by Georgy Katsiaficas. It's a great follow-up read to 'Fire and Flames: A History of the German Autonomist Movement' by Geronimo which I read recently.

A couple of others I've read recently include 'What Do Women Want?' by Susie Orbach and Luise Eichenbaum, and 'The Ethical Slut: A Practical Guide to Polyamory, Open Relationships and Other Adventures' by Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy. Although I've read the former once before, these two books have had a significant impact on me and I very highly recommend them.

You agree the Catholic church is a brainwashed cult then? I don't really see what's cultish about feminism or non-monogamy but ok whatever...

Non monogamy lel. You mean fucking randoms as well as your actual partner? I don't think it's  a new thing that people struggle to commit to one person, but writing a book called "the ethical slut" is like edgy teenager city. These people never grow up.

And I do wonder how much your beliefs are simply transferral from one weird cult dogma to another johno. Need to prop yourself up with psychological crutches all the time is a sign of insecurity you know.

I've never attached myself to any dogma, ideology or even any organisation. It's always made me feel really uncomfortable to be categorised or put in a box and I've always resisted doing it to myself... so you're not even close.

You're right, non-monogamy isn't anything new. But who are the adults, those who stumble through life hurting themselves and others repeatedly or those who consciously and deliberately define their relationships with people and the boundaries of those relationships? Consciously non-monogamous people are largely invisible in our society, but there's a lot of us and for most of us it doesn't mean "fucking randoms" at all. Anyway, go flower yourself. Polyamory is pretty much the least dogmatic thing I can think of.
