100 best Boeing products

Because for once Arthur has an idea that isn't worth letting die

100: Sonic Cruiser

Designed in 2001 as a potential competitor to any refreshed Concorde, the Sonic Cruiser would have been a 200-250 seater designed to cruise just under the speed of sound, at Mach 0.98 or a full .20 centimachs faster than a 747, shaving a lot of time off most long distance flights while eliminating annoying sonic booms from breaking the sound barrier. 9/11 and the later halting of the Concorde project changed the air industry dramatically over the following 2 years, and work on the Sonic Cruiser was cancelled in 2003 in favour of more conventional refreshes.

99: B-50 Superfortress

An entirely unremarkable military design used by the US Air Force, that came between the B-29 and the B-52. It was designed in 1947 but was highly vulnerable to interception by Soviet MiGs by 1952 and thus essentiall obselete. It became a leading cause of injury amongst its pilots, and its tanker variant was never fully developed. The B-50 remained in service until 1965, having had a large amount of money spunked on it and no real alternative, until finally problems with corrosion and metal fatigue retired the fleet.

Not really into planes.

This deserves to go into the "I don't give a flying flower" nomination thread.

Why the flower would the 707 be at #98? That plane is amazing. It'd be in my top 10.
This is highly irregular.

Boeing has a long and active history in the military and commercial sectors. It has 267 discrete projects, military and commercial, so I sure hope I could name the 100 best  :ugeek: over time

#98: Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight
A medium lift helicopter, mostly used worldwide in Search and Rescue operations. It was designed way back in 1954 but didn't enter production until 1962 thanks to the first real military procurement cockups that the world would soon come to know on a regular basis.

It is nicknamed the Phrog by US servicepersons. It is underpowered for modern operations, but boring and reliable.
