A Guide To... eIreland
« on: November 17, 2012, 04:49:27 pm »

As I said in my article yesterday, we have always enjoyed a rocky relationship with Ireland both in real life and within eRepublik. We have gone from allies in the Northern Alliance, to enemies when the Bremen Club House gained access and tried to PTO them. Again we are here now in a position for friendliness with the offer of a region swap. Due to its nature, Talon Karrde has decided to hold a referendum on whether we should accept this deal or not, as the monetary value to us is negligible but the diplomatic reward is high. We are in an important position now where we can decide the future of the eUK and its alliance. But before the message is passed around and everybody casts their vote as to what we do, I have decided to write a brand new Guide To… Ireland so that when you make your decision, it is as informed as it can be.  In the following paragraphs I’ll list some comparisons between us and our Irish neighbours, as well as some Irish history and their current situation so please enjoy!

Ireland is currently ranked 45th in eRepublik compared to the eUK’s 29th and is the EDEN alliance. It currently has 9 regions, 6 of which are its original regions and the other three are the Canadian regions Ontario, New Brunswick and Quebec (which is currently being taken back by Canada as we speak). None of the Canadian regions Ireland holds are connected to the Irish capital so it has no bonuses from it. The reason that Ireland is currently hold Canadian regions is the remnants of the Training War they had after they were unable to have the Training War with us for the Halloween missions and they are in the process of handing them back.

On the damage table in eGov Ireland comes in at a respectable 41st place with 1,257,881,320 influence per week, while the eUK comes in 23rd with 3,221,680,020 influence. According to eGov, they have 406 citizens, 40.6% of which are in division 1 though 80% of its damage stems from division 4 as seems to be standard. It has some pretty powerful Military Units, its highest hitting being the Irish Army, the official military of Ireland, which contains 21% of the population of Ireland (86 people) but deals 40% of their total influence (69,305,600 a day).

Here are a couple of quotes by eIreland’s government.

The Psych0, Prime Minister
“Ireland is one little but proud country, filled with various types of players, but we all have same goal and that's a stronger Eire. We, the Irish, are always here for our allies and one thing we can be most proud about was our loyalty to our beliefs and to our friends, no matter from which alliance. We are maybe small, but we'd be ready to attack strongest, we're maybe few, but we'll fight many.”

Winston Hope Smith, Country President of eIreland
“Before going into the detail, I want to say something that is often lost in the chest-thumping nationalisms of our two ecountries: eIreland has a lot in common with its English-speaking neighbours. In fact, of late, we've worked hard to improve our relations both with the UK and also Canada. There's a lively debate currently going on in eIreland about where our future lies in that regard. This is symptomatic of the quandary that we currently find ourselves in: we want to rebuild eIreland after a series of much publicised thefts, but to what end? I think that first off, we have to make our country more attractive in terms of bonuses. We have massive redundancy in that department. That's why I'm really enthusiastic to re-establish the region swap with the UK that broke down this autumn. Second, long term, eIreland has to look past its current borders and consider moving further afield. As a small ecountry with an active community our challenge is to provide fun for our citizens.”

As it currently seems, Ireland appear to be wanting to remain in EDEN despite the recent event that saw their MoD having to resign as a result of EDEN HQ’s dislike for him. There was some general unease about that but Nenya's resignation from HQ as Supreme Commander has probably helped change a few minds about EDEN within the Ireland. As a nation, they are currently slightly saddened by Belarus's official exit from the alliance but they are now open to improving relations with the UK, however, after several years of war. This is the closest Ireland and the UK has been since 2009 and we were in the Northern Alliance.

Ultimately though, what happens next is down to you. In the following days you’ll receive a PM with a link to a form for you to fill out. This will simply be asking you whether to accept the region swap, your opinion on Ireland and where you hail from in real life. Remember, whatever the result, it will be published and followed so be sure to vote with your head how you think we should go!

You can read a bit more on the situation by reading my last article here. In the meantime, have fun!

We have a brand new mentoring form! Now, if you want to have a mentor, be a mentor or you just have a question you wish to ask then don’t hesitate to take a look at the form here. I’ll be trying to circulate this over the coming month so please pass the link on to people who’ll need it!

Thanks for reading!
