Allow Guests to post
« : December 26, 2012, 04:01:22 PM »
Okay, I don't know how viable this is, but the thought popped into my head so I thought I might as well post it.  :ugeek:

Basically I have been on forums in the past where you can post as a 'guest', you do not need to create an account. Obviously you don't get as many privileges etc., but it could definitely be useful for people who want to post, but have no interest in the forums and making an account.

I don't think we should have it for all forums, it may get messy but defo for Citizen Advice, Free stuff for new members, and Citizensjip Applications.

Thoughts - is this viable/useful?

No.

Reason: Bots be spammin' even when they need to register. No way to regulate forum users either.

What Thomas said.

Also, people would use the anonymity to troll and generally say things that they wouldn't otherwise say.

Wow! I actually agree with Dan and Thomas.

A further point is that legally the owners of the site are responsible for what is posted, so could be the subject of a libel suit. Anonymous posts mean that the suit will stick with the owners if your anonymous poster cannot be traced.

Yes. Besides the fact that the little google ad you see on the front page helps pay for the site. If people post porn or gore or other things in conflict with the terms and agreements of google ads then we can potentially lose that source of income :3
