Dear Mr. Kerr,
I haven't been able to find one set of rules as would have been in the topic or something in the past, but the following are relevant:viewtopic.php?f=42&t=84067
- though specifically about one incident and not particularly relevant, this is representative of the attitude that past ops etc. have had with regard to how the channel should be and how people should be expected to behave. Nothing specific or particularly helpful, but
I think mods & co operate on a 'don't be a dick' policy, which is coo'
is something repeated by Dan Moir
and something which will be echoed in the following threads --viewtopic.php?f=9&t=66695#basic-conduct
- this is only really notable in that it says the chan ops have the final word, but more to this is the fact that if there is a problem, as with anything, you should take it up with the owner or person/people responsible etc.viewtopic.php?p=339442#p339442
- though obviously not a set-in-stone and decent set of rules, is a general principle by which IRC has always been maintained - particularly with regard to how people are to ops, as highlighted above.
If someone more versed than myself can find a set of rules that were written down then it would be no doubt appreciated, but from being op in the past and experiencing IRC for years it has always been the case that there are a few general principles by which the op has the right to deal with (ie, telling someone to stop -> kicking -> banning, in that order if people don't pay attention and "be dicks");
mass pinging people in the channel
being a dick to an op in the channel (change for spam pinging an op if you'd like, since that's the relevant thing)
advertising random shit (usually straight ban)
being racist or posting horrible things
being Padraig Pearse (though this was relaxed)
basically anything that either is an attempt to piss of ops or make IRC unpleasant for others.
If you have a problem with this I will gladly discuss it with you, but I think perhaps this deserves its own thread away from here.
Also if any other op or past op would like to point anything out I'd be glad to hear it, this all from my experience (being on both sides of it) and therefore memory.
