Updates: Please read!
« on: July 25, 2013, 06:13:29 pm »
Hi guys, just a few updates to share with you all!

Moderation
After chatting with the mods we've pretty much all agreed that things are getting out of hand. I don't want to take a "Rargh, we're big and grumpy!" stance with people, we're just volunteers who have a bunch of friends here. At the same time, I think we all need to take a harsh look at how we're acting. Someone said to me recently that if we could hold a mirror up to ourselves, we probably wouldn't like what we see. Just think of the impression this gives to people who are new. I know that we have a situation with ingrained differences and I respect that, but civility and stuff is not hard and really goes a long way.

With this in mind, your moderators (Robalbinio, Prof Moriarty, Sir Digby Chicken-Caesar, kdogground2 and Rodney McKay for those of you who don't know somehow...) have been advised to be stricter with regards to infractions and thread locks. If you disagree with these send me a message either here, ingame or on IRC. I will look at the matter and make a decision, posting in threads complaining about it will gain you more points and make me less likely to want to help you. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making this a nice, friendly place to be for everyone.

Themes!
Now that I have a test forum I can use (Thank you Darkmantle!) themes are now easier for me to test and edit. This means that I have great news in that I'm tentatively opening up custom themes for private boards. Much like Minecraft and Gaming have different themes, I can set your party forums to a new colour scheme or whatever you can design!

http://www.smfhacks.com/smf-theme-generator.html
Here is a simple editor for colour schemes for you to use, simply create a theme and make it available for me to download and I will try it out for you. Obviously nothing NSFW or against forum rules and all themes are subject to testing and the forum teams discretion. I hope this gives parties and groups a great new thing to work on together and can't wait to see your results.

Awards
Just a small change here, now that we have an active admin again in me the awards will be passing back over to the Admin and mod team control. Thank you to Pfeiffer who has run things up until now, not to mention the background things he's run during his tenure. I'm just going to tweak the application procedure and simply ask for The award title, design and recipients, after that we'll make a decision on an one by one basis. This should give a bit more flexibility to what we can give out and as most will be one off they're very easy to administrate. Obviously we don't want to be saturated so keep stuff within reason!

Known bugs
All I can think of at the moment is that the Megaman theme used in gaming still has a bit of a broken quick reply. I patched it just by reusing the code from our usual theme. Unfortunately this hasn't fixed the issue on mobiles, or at least not the version I use. If you have any more, just let me know!

Thanks for slogging through this, as always feedback is welcomed and appreciated, thank you very much

Themes are kind of horrible, being honest. Is there a way to turn them off? I'm pretty sure there isn't, but it's worth asking.

I can set it so people can choose their own themes, which wouldn't be an issue in my eyes. The only thing I'm concerned about is if several get errors at the same time and I can't get round to doing them quick enough for people.

I'm not sure if they override everything, I tried to do a favour for Kdogg and set his theme as Megaman everywhere and it hasn't worked yet

No, see, it's things just like that 'Kun. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean that's what we want to be showing on our public boards. BBH and private ones I'm not concerned too much about as one is hidden from unread and the others are hidden completely. It gives us a bad first impression to people joining. Who wants to stay around when they feel they run the risk of having people begging for their ban everywhere? For first timers who don't know why it looks petty and not inviting. I don't want that at all.

I really like the themes tbh.

Also any chance of size specs for making custom themes?

Would love to make a PCP forum theme ^_^

I would recommend looking there at existing themes. As has been established, I'm no expert by a long way, but here you can browse themes and if you have the experience can download and manually edit one on your own. Should have the info there, I hope!

We want anybody who is crazy enough to spend time with us <3

PD is understandable that there's arguments, but that it bleeds out everywhere else is my issue

I can make themes for people if they supplies the colours/ideas/images they want on it.

I'll fix the megaman theme too at some point, I swear I gave kumnaa a fix for quick reply ages ago though.

No. We want a forum that is at the very least presentable and welcoming so that guests are more likely to register and start posting.

Pathetic eRep spats and vitriol work against that, so we want to get rid of them. If people aren't able to behave sensibly and like a normal human being to each-other outside of game roleplay or the shambles of its politics then they'll find their posts and posting rights adjusted so they're unable to make the place so unpleasant.

I was always told to attack the post rather than the poster.

Continually making personal attacks is not only tedious it is counter productive in making this forum a good place to be.

Give thanks that I'm not a mod

This is pretty funny considering you're possibly the worst example of this Butjam.  Take this thread for example.  If you want to make the forums a better place for people to visit, maybe talking about sex slaves in a thread started to encourage friendly discussion and activity should be dealt with rather than encouraged.  Just one example.  Needs more badass.

Also, you have way too many mods, pretty much all of them do very little as far as I can tell.  Kdogg for instance last posted on 12th July and that was possibly the most ridiculous mod post I've ever seen on the forums.  Prior to that you have to go back to 4th July for a post.

Yeah, that's totally the worst recent example that springs to mind.
