Either World Border or Map Border

Morning All,

Just a quick one really to gauge what people want to do about an issue I need to resolve.

The map renders are starting to drag again due to the newly explored areas. I personally have no issue with players wanting to expand and explore if thats what they want to do, but from a practical server point of view I need to look at resource use (The map already takes up nearly 40Gb of space)

As such I can either:-

a) Implement a worldborder at 35000 which means we cant go further than 35000 blocks from the 0,0 its still a massive area to explore (only one border is presently at 32000) or.....

b) Limit the map render to a border of around 10000 circular, anything out that then doesn't get rendered. I can if needed render other maps that cover a certain area with the centres offset, so that the explorers at least have a rough idea of local terrain, and limit that to a 2000 circular area around a centre point they give me?

Let me know your thoughts anyway

Personally for me I prefer the b) option as that doesn't limit people exploring. And I'm happy to run a new map with whatever co-ords the Joy Division want me to use as a centre point to make thier lives easier

I don't understand the need to go off exploring long distances?

What would be coords of the 4 corners of the world border?

My point is, with even a world border like the one bellow (see red) , that map would still be like 25% (tops!) explored. IMMENSELY big areas (see orange) are still unexplored relatively close to spawn.

All in all I would not mind a world border.

P.s.: I'll be back online after my exam.

Tbh, it really doesn't bother me as I don't plan on moving very far from where I am.

Mapping only the core areas seems the best idea.

Both options are good for me. There is fun to be had exploring the nether put a portal and see where you end up. At least for me because I don't do the maths :D
But of course getting i to trouble with the map isn't an option because I rely on it a fair bit :$
so I'll go with Bask for option B
