Does anyone practice archery?
« on: July 01, 2009, 10:55:44 pm »
Seeing as this is a reasonably large forum, its possible that there is someone else who does

I started shooting at university two years ago.
Its an amazing sport and I really enjoy it.

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there with this strange mindset like me lol

I have done it on a few occasions and enjoyed it, not many places to do it around me though.

Also, I like it because you don't have to sweat, but you get to work out certain muscles.

What sort have you done? The typical style is recurve, but also longbow and compound are common.

I started at uni, and when I came home I was surprised at the number of clubs there were around me lol. (I live in Kent and in my area there were at least 3 clubs I could get to easily driving.)

That's cool.
Did you do it regularly? Or just on occasion?
I was a member of my local scout group but I had to stop going regularly when I went to university.

Both my brothers practice. They go to club each week and a big competition on the isle of man each year.  I never got into it though, my uni soc meets on sunday mornings and i  work sat nights so i'm never up.  I might start once i graduate if i live close to the club they go to.

Yeah, it's a great sport.
I started about 14 years ago, and i loved it from my first lesson. Been hooked ever since.
I have recently started coaching, since my old coach has retired.
I not too sure if i enjoy it more than just shooting, but i think bringing new people into the sport just edges it.
I do miss just shooting and not having to worry about everyone in my class.

I still use a recurve bow, with stabilizers. If i was to go back to just shooting , i would def get a compound bow.
I suffer from a weak tendon in my draw arm, so i find it difficult (no! painfull) to shot a full round.
Oh, well. Guess i should stick to coaching.
