The aims of racism, in its purest form would be to remove all races bar one.  So yes. It always failed.

The biggest failure in human history is ethnic cleansing, which is a subset of racism. Failed in Germany, failing in Israel, failed in Rwanda, failed in the Congo.

Racism is merely preferring one human over another due to their race, it doesn't necessarily mean the wiping out of that race. I could be ageist and say 'I don't like people under 10, they smell too much.' Doesn't necessarily mean I want all under 10s wiped out.

at the end of the day, language is there for us to communicate if somebody can understand the sentence, then that is all that matters, and how you would know whether i try or not i don't know.

I'm sorry but all you post is crap, really it is, you'll claim things like 'Relic is X', and outright deny every that says 'Relic isn't X' but you'll offer no explanation why 'Relic is X'. You say you communicate but you don't, communication suggests conveying information, you merely repeat statements.

I think you can describe racism as a human failing or a failing of, say, some political systems. Racism isn't a platform in the way that Communism has been so it's difficult to judge as a failure OR a success.

For example, I can declare "I am a racist" and behave as such. The BNP on the other hand has policies that I would describe as racist but would never declare "We're a big bunch of racists" in a manifesto.

A lot of ill treatment has been caused by racism - it was acceptable (at the time) for a black African to be a slave but if you'd enslaved a member of your own race there would have been uproar. Compare this to the treatment of Native Americans and Chinese "coolie" workers in the US.

Again, the Nazis were elected despite/because of having racist policies. But they were also in a place and time where the old guard were unpopular and a new and charismatic party and leader had a fine opportunity for power.

The basis is the same: if you consider any race to be subhuman then you'll behave as such.

So, did the Nazis fail because they were racist? No, they failed because they pissed off too many people, bit off more than they could chew and got their arses kicked as a result. If they had been quietly and internally racist they might be there to this day.

Racism is an outlook of a person or a society and cannot be judged by any criteria as having "succeeded" or "failed".
"Humanity will never go to the stars. And if we do, it won't be for knowledge, and it won't be in peace, and humanity will be lying and backstabbing and enslaving and torturing each other every inch of the way." - Terrifel, SDMB
