Shields up! Rrrrred alert!

I know it's a long way off (May 2009), but are there any trekkies awaiting the new film? What do you think it will be like?

I really want to not see this movie, but I am also sometimes highly susceptible to trailers. So as much as i hate some things they've done I still feel compelled to see it.

Yeh unfortunately there are some issues with the film and it's facts, however I think you can only criticise it fully is when you have seen it. It at least needs a chance, so I will no doubt go and watch it.

Trailer 2 does make it look better than trailer 1 did and I hope that JJ. Abrams continues the list of good films that he has produced and directed.

I suppose he's done okay. I hated Cloverfield.

Fair enough, but he only produced that I believe. His actual creative input I think would have been limited.

He is a writer/producer. Lets lookat his filmography and see what we think...
Mission Imposible 3 (Director/co-writer) Liked this one purely for Simon Pegg.
Cloverfield (producer)
Star Trek (Director/Producer)
and for TV he did Felicity/Alias/ and Lost.

I've never watched any of those, but let me be the first  to point out this guy is getting a lot of work I think purely for his work on Lost.

I think you're right, no arguments. I did feel however, as a long-time Alias fan, that Mission Impossible 3 was just a long episode of Alias, just with Tom Cruise in it. Which is fine, but I was expecting him to put more of his mark on the franchise.

But I was hoping that his passion for the Star Trek franchise would help him treat it with respect, something of a Lord of the Rings-Jackson, Spiderman - Sam Raimi type deal, which is all we can ask really. We'll just see. I'm not a Trekkie, but for some reason, I want this film to be good.

A friend of mine out here in California is all disapointed with it because when he heard about Leonard Nimoy being in it he had an idea of what they were planning on doing, but it turned out differently. I asked him what he thought was going to happen and it turned out to be pretty damn good. The movie would begin with old Spock on a ship headed for an unidentified place and a young crewman asks what it was like knowing Kirk. Spock tells the story of how they met (the movie) and at the end it is revealed by Spock that they are going to the Nexus to bring back Kirk because Kirk wouldn't abandon Spock if there was a chance he was alive, and now Spock won't abandon Kirk if there's a chance he was alive. He pointed out that according to Generations when you end up in the Nexus you are always in the Nexus in some way or place so it is conceivable to bring someone back more than once.

I rather liked his idea over the time traveling Spock battling Romulan spies.

Hopefully, pretty good considering the hype it's got so far.
Zachary Quinto as Spock should be excellent, he's got the whole emotionless facade completely down.

I have mixed feelings. Tha trailer looks good, and Zachary Quinto will be an amazing Spock. However, they seem to have forgot a lot of historical Star Trek facts. If they rewrite history I will not be amused. However I hear rumours that there is a reason for it being wrong (which I won't post because it is spoiler material.) If this is the case, then I shall be happy enough.

Whatever the case, I say with unrellenting vigour and brash Trekism:

Bring it on  :ugeek: !

The trailer sure looks good, I hope that the movie will be as entertaining.
