Grand Strategy General

How is your Empire today /v/... I mean... Board index > General > Strategy

This is my current game on EU3 (Divine Wind)

http://i53.tinypic.com/no7j9y.jpg

Started in 1399 as Muscovy. You have a p shocking start with every neighbour an enemy, and the Golden Horde invading every 5 years. However once I beat the Russian minors and bribed enough people I was able to tackle Novgorod. With the Russian duchies under my control, I used the classic "burn land and retreat for winter" tactic against the golden horde, and eventually took all their land. After that it was just a case of forming Russia and then going on an Eastward rampage, consolidating my West and South with vassals.

Current date is about 1720 on that map, 100 years to go.

Is there a particular reason why you own Palestine?

You get a 1% prestige bonus and 0.5 extra missionaries a year for owning Jerusalem/Mecca as a Christian nation. I was at war with the Ottomans, and so i demanded it for peace. It is a pain in the arse with infamy demanding loads of territory, so I just asked for that. Plus I can stick a fairly large army/navy there and it helps me if I ever go to war with anyone in the region.

EU3 is best grand strat game around imo

Impressive. I've never fully got into EU3 to be quite honest.

I purchased it on release on disc (twice by mistake) but could never get it working :s

I'm semi wondering if installing it from steam would make it work :s

I'm sure you can get a picture or how well everyone else is doing too.  What's the colonial powers like?

shift and f12 gives you a map of your country+ your vassals. I think f12 is just everyone.

Colonial powers are mixed. Burgundy took over France, Austria inherited UK then lost it again. Portugal got caught up in europe and never really went west. The biggest countries in America are Holland (most of NE North America) and Burgundy (most of Argentina/coast of Brazil).

China was unified under Ming but I boned them.

I was genuinely interested in this but I downloaded an ancient demo running Windows 7 and it wouldn't run. I imagine it's because I've got an integrated graphics chipset but the problems I had meant that getting the game would be a major financial risk since there's no guarantee I could play it.

Yes he is into grand strategy games

I discovered that the problem wasn't with the computer but with the graphics settings when running under compatibility mode. The temptation now is to purchase the game and see what happens. I can't change the game settings because it's a demo and I can't find the folder where the file I need to modify is. Do I or don't I...? Hm.

You "acquire" it first.

That's what I do generally before buying every game to make sure it runs well and I actually like it.

I decided to "acquire" it before I purchase it. I have to admit that I rather enjoyed it. The tutorial crashed on me and so I decided to go into a game and selected to be "England". I then decided to attack Scotland in the aims to creating the United Kingdom but, of course, France protected the lands and so I got into a war, lost several regions and ended up in a war on the borders with Cumbria and Northumberland being the primary regions. If I'd run the tutorial or had someone guiding me, I might have done a little better. I might just get it from Christmas or some such.

The wiki is good for learning about the game.
