Farming Villagers (A farm getting farmed by villagers)
« on: September 23, 2014, 04:18:42 pm »
In 1.8 villagers now break and replace crops.

However, they drop the drops of the crops AND then they pick them up.

They have invisible inventories.

I have been messing around with them, and I have actually been able to steal some of the drops before they picked them up, or when their inventories clogged up to the point where they either throw food at the other villagers or they make it into bread.

I have so far been able to get: seeds, bread, wheat and potatoes, however, in a small small amount. I have been able to get more bread than anything, and only 1 wheat, it seems they make wheat into bread in sets of 2-5 pieces.

I hope this info is of some help to those auto farmers on the server.

ADD:

I have found hoppers under the dirt DOES NOT pick the drops up, you need a minecart with a hopper in it to go around very fast on a track to attempt to steal the drops, only way I've found so far.

Have you tried throwing loads of wheat at one of them to use them as a bread making machine?

Yup, they're already pumping stuff out more now

They seem to 'break' after awhile, it seems their inventories unless they breed get full and they stop harvesting crops.

Trying methods to attempt a fix of this.

You might need to kill one in front of the rest to keep them working hard.

Just design a trap only baby villagers can fall into

I have a breeder.

This is for food farms, as in taters, carrots, wheat/bread etc.

Which one should die? I'll let you pick.

I know but:

Problem: they won't drop stuff without breeding
Solution: Let them breed, but kill the babies so they continuously do so

This would need a lot of resources, and tbph, the output might be nothing still.

As when they breed, they have to refill the requirements, meaning little dropped.

But I'll attempt a build with a breeder and farmer.
