Jan, I personally would love the ability to put hot chicks not only in an avatar but also in a signature, however this has been discussed in the past and I doubt they'll change the image settings. You'll just have to do BBCode.

An option for a wide, short sig picture would be good for titles, ranks and shit like that.
Even a REALLY short one would be useful.

Massive pics there are fucking annoying though, just go on any manga forums ever to see the bullshit people put there.

While it's true that big sig pictures COULD fit in, that is not the whole issue. If two people have a debate and both have retarded huge sig pics, it's very distracting.
