Number 10 Petitions

Postby Mailak Kalan » Mon Feb 08, 2010 1:42:19 am

There are a number of Petitions running at the moment that I have signed So I thought it would be a good idea if we could have 1 Post where we can all post the ones we feel need signing

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/rockets/
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/organoptout/

These are the only 2 I can find from the ones I have signed lately, but I will post more when I find them.

There's the 'No state funeral for Thatcher' one, I signed that. I've signed a few. I remember I signed one calling for Sri Lanka to be kicked out the Commonwealth. I still think it should be.

I say only give fireworks to stupid people and then lock them in a big room. Where's the petition for that?

When not just make it a crime to use fire works dangerously? I mean people drink alcohol that can kill but we don't ban that because it can be used safely. People can buy petrol and that explodes but we let people buy it because it can be used safely. People can buy knifes and you don't need a "Knife degree" to do so because people can uses knifes safely. Why not ban something if they use it dangerously rather than arrogantly assume they will.

Its already illegal to use Fireworks dangerously. It doesnt stop some stupid parents buying them and giving them to there kids to play with. it doesnt stop people not knowing how to use them correctly and being to close when setting it off. I have seen alot of accidents with fireworks because people dont know how to use them carefully. None of the other things you mentioned are Explosives. All Explosives are very heavily regulated and yet Fireworks can be freely bought by anyone who is over 18. That just doesnt make sense. Once again, there Explosives not toys and yet so many people treat them like toys its stupid. Can you imagine how much more Free time the police/fire/amublance's/Doctors would have if they didnt have to chase up on people being stupid with them.

So you would advocate the banning of alcohol because some people can use it dangerously. "Can you imagine how much more Free time the police/fire/amublance's/Doctors would have if they did not have to deal with alcohol abuse. Better ban the wholesale sale of the stuff so no one can ever drink."

Also would you ban petrol? Because I can tell you now that petrol does not burn it explodes! Should we ban any one driving unless they have a degree in explosives???

Not only are you not going to extrapolate your reasons for banning fire works onto other goods but this also makes you a supreme kill joy.

alcohol is also used for drinking (And yes I do belive it should be more heavily regulated to stop people drinking to much) Petrol is used to Power Cars etc (I also belive we should invest alot more money into other forms of Power so we can stop using it). Both of them have other use's. Fireworks Dont, they only have 1 Use and thats to go bang. If someone isnt trained to use them then someone is going to get hurt. and they do, very frequrently.

IMO you contradict yourself in this post a bit. You say that a fireworks only use is to go bang, but petrols only use is to burn, it's just that we have utilised this to power cars. Fireworks only go bang, but if we needed to we could develop them into a form of communication, or to provide lighting.

If we want to get technical petrols' only use is to go bang as it's exsplosion is what drives the internal combustion engine. But its not important because the purpose of a fire work is not just to go bang but to entertain and its a very important part of you and my culture. It is traditional on the 5th of November and many other non British holidays to have fire works and to ban people form having their own would be very culturally insensitive.

On similar vain. I remember going to a "Professional" fire works display once. It was one of those typical 5th of nov night, cold and slightly dam, where you have nothing more than a hot dog covered in wet onions to keep warm. The display was about to start and you could see the men lighting the fuse in the far distance on the other side of the field. With a short woosh it went up, not in the air though but a long the grass at the crowd. It stopped and hissed about 10 meter in front of us; you could hear nothing but the uncertain murmuring of people as they looked at each other. Then bomb! and the entire crowd rush away as more of the rockets fired towards us exploding all around, I could feel the sparks on the back of my neck and my mate swears one went though his legs. lol. It was awesome. Luckily no one was hurt but just goes to show even professionals can get it wrong.

Some people at a place near me weren't so lucky. A few years ago on bonfire night at an annual firework display a firework flew into the crowd and injured 11 people, three of whom were hospitalised and at least one needed surgery because of major burns.

This was a professional firework event that was organised by one of the UK's biggest firework display companies, so (like has already been said) even professionals get it wrong, but just because it went wrong once doesn't mean that you should just stop it on the off chance an accident happens again.
